G. Harburn et al., THE CRYSTAL-CHEMISTRY OF NONSTOICHIOMETRIC OXIDES WITH THE LOW-TEMPERATURE TA2O5 STRUCTURE, Philosophical magazine. A. Physics of condensed matter. Defects and mechanical properties, 68(4), 1993, pp. 633-640
A model is proposed for the idealized structures of the non-stoichiome
tric Ta2O5:MOx phases which, possess the structure of the low-temperatu
re form of Ta2O5. These are described as consisting of slabs of a beta
-U3O8-type structure of variable width linked by slabs of alpha-U3O8-t
ype structure which are of constant width. These structures are consis
tent with the shift-lattice interpretation of the diffraction patterns
and provide a crystal chemical basis for the formation of such phases
.
