In the Maltese Archipelago, hourly wind data are recorded at Luqa Inte
rnational Airport (latitude 35 degrees 51.5'N, longitude 14 degrees 28
.5'E) by the Department of Civil Aviation. Readings taken over the per
iod January 1993-December 1993 are evaluated. Data are obtained at a h
eight of 10 m above ground level and 84 m above mean sea level. Wind p
arameters are examined assuming a Weibull distribution function for th
e recorded data. The assumption of a logistic distribution function as
a possible alternative mode of calculating the mean wind speed is als
o analysed. A comparison of the two methodologies is carried out.
