Abstract
The current methodology for computing the evolution of microstructure and flow stress during multipass processing is summarised, and typical outputs for hot rolling of steel are shown. The limitations of these procedures, and the alternative internal state variable approach, with the variables tied to microstructural features are briefly considered .
