The paper describes a new method of determining quartz in respirable d
ust based on the electric polarization of the quartz lattice under mec
hanical pressure. The piezoelectricity of the sample surface is measur
ed, after elimination of the triboelectric charges, by means of a char
ge amplifier (a differentiating circuit composed of two field-effect t
ransistors), through a layer of inert dust with high resistivity; char
ge-time curves are obtained which are a function of the percentage of
quartz particles present on the surface of the sample.
