Nc. Larter et Ja. Nagy, EVIDENCE OF OVERWINTER GROWTH IN PEARY CARIBOU, RANGIFER-TARANDUS-PEARYI, CALVES, Canadian field-naturalist, 109(4), 1995, pp. 446-448
Female Peary Caribou calves were collected on Banks Island during earl
y winter (November-December 1993) and midwinter (February 1994). Calve
s collected in February (aged 8 months) had significantly larger femur
, tibia, and metatarsus bones than those collected in November/Decembe
r (aged 5-6 months), possibly indicating overwinter growth.
