Abstract
The question of whether a gel gradient can improve the resolvability o f two peaks by means of gel electrophoresis is studied. The criterion used is the time to a specific resolution, defined as the time to the appearance of a minimum in the concentration profile between the peaks . Although the analysis is phrased in terms of gel electrophoresis, it is more generally applicable to other separation techniques.
