Abstract
Complementary synthetic routes to the chiral (1,3)- and (1,2)-calix[5] crown ethers 2 and 3, respectively, are described. The regio- and ster eochemical arrangement of the O-alkyl residues is deduced by NMR, and further supported by a single-crystal X-ray analysis of crown-5 deriva tive 3b.
