Everywhere in the world the proportion of old people needing daily car
e is increasing. This forces the active population, particularly women
workers, to adapt their working lives to fit. The author examines the
different facets of this problem in industrialized and developing cou
ntries and reviews the public and private assistance programmes which
already exist or need to be developed. She concludes that more researc
h is needed in order to gather the information necessary to improve th
e targeting of such programmes.
