Sk. Lam et al., OVARIAN EPITHELIAL TUMOR IN GONADAL-DYSGENESIS A CASE-REPORT AND LITERATURE-REVIEW, Australian and New Zealand Journal of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, 36(1), 1996, pp. 106-109
A patient with gonadal dysgenesis was found to have a mucinous epithel
ial ovarian tumour on the left side and a streak gonad on the right. T
he preponderance of mucinous tumours (5 of 8) over other epithelial ru
mours in these patients is noted but the significance is not fully und
erstood. Two models of pathogenesis (incessant ovulation and hypergona
dotrophic hypogonadism) were proposed but neither satisfactorily expla
ins the development of the tumours. Further ultrastructural, chromosom
al and molecular biological study of these tumours may help to elucida
te the underlying cause and pathogenesis.
