Avulsion of the gastrocnemius tendon from the calcaneus was diagnosed
in 11 dogs. The primary clinical finding was a unique postural change
and resultant rear limb lameness. Physical examination of the affected
limb along with radiographic findings led to the diagnosis. Surgical
correction was performed in 10 cases by stabilization of the tendinoss
eus junction using a locking loop, suture pattern and bone tunnel tech
nique. One was repaired using tension band fixation. Surgical correcti
on led to a favorable outcome in all cases.
