The third annual meeting of the Moscow International Energy Club (MIEC
) addressed a wide range of topics related to energy for Europe in tra
nsition. The focus of the Conference was on environmental aspects of e
nergy production. Economic, political, and technical aspects of the di
fferent energy resources were discussed within the framework of the cu
r-rent status of energy in the European community, including Eastern E
urope and Russia. Future prospects for international cooperation in th
e development and supply of clean energy were evaluated. The presentat
ions included papers on fossil fuels and nuclear power, including disp
osal of spent nuclear fuel and high level waste. This summary of the C
onference Proceedings provides a review of the papers and comments tha
t were presented.
