A comprehensive model for the kraft pulping kinetics of Eucalyptus sal
igna hardwood is presented. Kinetic parameters were estimated by fitti
ng the model to available experimental data taken from the literature
over a range of process variables. The model takes into account the ef
fect of hydroxide and sulfide concentration in the liquor as well as t
he temperature-time history of the cooking. Model predictions were suc
cessfully compared with an independent set of bench-scale plant data f
or lignin and carbohydrate dissolution. The model is able to predict q
uite well the trends of the process variables.
