Abstract
The pyogenic liver abscess in an uncommon but potentially lethal compl ication of colo-anal surgery. The authors report a case due to Strepto coccus intermedius, a pathogen with a known ability to produce viscera l abscesses, after haemorrhoidectomy. According to the French consensu s conference, the patient had received a prophylactic preoperative ant ibiotic regimen consisting of metronidazole, active against S intermed ius. Despite surgical therapy and adequate antibiotics, the patient di ed of hepatic failure.
