Abstract
Values are widely viewed as central to the selection of, and subsequen t satisfaction with, life roles. But because no conceptual framework h as been advanced to guide the work of practitioners and researchers, v alues are widely ignored by both groups. This article sets forth sever al propositions aimed at remedying this oversight by clarifying the im portance of values in both decision making and life satisfaction.
