F. Duffaud et al., APPLICATION OF THE CYTOKINESIS-BLOCKED MICRONUCLEUS ASSAY TO PATIENTSTREATED BY CHEMOTHERAPY OR CONCOMITANT RADIOTHERAPY AND CHEMOTHERAPY, Medical science research, 24(2), 1996, pp. 95-97
We applied cytokinesis-block micronucleus assay to measure the chromos
ome damage in lymphocytes of 32 cancer patients undergoing chemotherap
y (17 patients) or concomitant radio and chemotherapy (15 patients). M
easurements before treatment (T0) and just before the second chemother
apy cycle (T1) showed a significant increase in the micronucleated cel
l rates for the radio- and chemotherapy group but no significant incre
ase between T0 and T1 for the chemotherapy group. Different hypotheses
to explain these results are discussed. The most significant explanat
ion is based on the mechanism of action of concomitant radio- and chem
otherapy.
