Mj. Elias et al., TRANSDISCIPLINARY COLLABORATION AMONG SCHOOL RESEARCHERS - THE CONSORTIUM ON THE SCHOOL-BASED PROMOTION OF SOCIAL COMPETENCE, Journal of educational and psychological consultation, 7(1), 1996, pp. 25-39
A common problem faced by professionals involved in implementing and r
esearching intervention programs is identifying where they can turn fo
r consultation and support in addressing the complex challenges of the
ir work. The professional literature often does not address the specif
ic problems they must address and does not offer personal support. Fur
ther, it is unclear what type of professional development is appropria
te for meeting the somewhat unique needs of those at a senior level. T
his article discusses the development, formation, evolution, and ongoi
ng work of a group of researchers and professors from universities aro
und the country who have been collaborating since 1987. They formed a
consortium of professional peers to share expertise, conduct joint pro
jects, encourage reflective practice, provide moral support, and enhan
ce one another's professional growth and development. Through the mutu
al efforts, support, and consultative assistance provided, members hav
e been able to creatively enhance and improve their individual approac
hes to school intervention and also expand their influence on the fiel
d at large.
