Abstract
We demonstrated a new type of grating polarizing beam-splitter (GPBS), which is made of an oriented thin film of polydiacetylene (PDA) and h as the advantages of light weight and easy fabrication. The extinction ratios of the 2.5-mu m-thick element were -8.7 dB and -7.4 dB for the 0th-order and the Ist-order diffraction beams, respectively. The prob lems that must be solved prior to practical use are discussed.
