Me. Clark, MMPI-2 NEGATIVE TREATMENT INDICATORS CONTENT AND CONTENT COMPONENT SCALES - CLINICAL CORRELATES AND OUTCOME PREDICTION FOR MEN WITH CHRONICPAIN, Psychological assessment, 8(1), 1996, pp. 32-38
The current study evaluated the utility of the Negative Treatment Indi
cators (TRT) Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory-2 (J. N. Butc
her, W. G. Dahlstrom, J. R. Graham, A. Tellegen, & B. Kaemmer, 1989) C
ontent and Content Component (TRT1 and TRT2) scales using a clinical s
ample of men with chronic pain. Results indicate that TRT correlates f
or this patient sample were similar to those for normative sample men.
External test correlates indicate that TRT, TRT1, and TRT2 scores ref
lected, at least in part, emotional distress. Furthermore, TRT and TRT
1 were significant predictors of treatment-related change and posttrea
tment functioning for some measures. However, caution is warranted whe
n interpreting the scales, as high TRT and TRT1 scores may predict eit
her negative or positive treatment response, depending on the treatmen
t context and the outcome measures employed.
