Abstract
N-Aryl-2, 6-dioxocyclohexanecarbothioamides (1,2) were prepared from t he respective aryl isothiocyanates and 1,3-cyclohexanedione/dimedone. Irradiation of the thioamides (1,2) with 254 nm light furnished 2-(2-b enzothiazolyl)-1,3-cyclohexanediones (7,8). The benzothiazole derivati ves 8f and 8g were prepared from the thioamides 2b and 2e by treatment with iodine in the presence of pyridine.
