Abstract
The effect of holothurin on Trypanosoma musculi infection in FN mice i ndicated that the drug administered prior to, simultaneously with and after inoculation of trypanosomes affected the parasitemic level durin g the course of infection. The infection was measured by the numbers o f trypanosomes at the peak and throughout the course of infection. In the present study, the untreated controls receiving trypanosomes had h igher parasitemias 7 to 15 days post inoculation in one experiment and throughout the entire duration of second experiment as compared to th e treated experimental groups. The mechanism of action of the steroid saponin (holothurin) was not determined.
