In this investigation the possibility of using whole blood instead of
plasma in the analysis of turtle blood by a dry process was examined.
7 parameters (uric acid, urea, AST, ALT, CK, glucose and cholesterol)
in the blood samples collected from 10 different turtles were measured
using plasma as well as whole blood in an analysis by dry process. Ad
ditionally these blood parameters were determined in an analysis by we
t process. Results have been statistically evaluated. Only the measure
ment of ALT activity showed significant differences between whole bloo
d and plasma values which were low in relation to changes caused by pa
thological processes. Therefore, we suggest that whole blood can be us
ed for the measurement of the above mentioned parameters in the blood
of the turtle.
