This paper proposes a multilevel hierarchical registration strategy fo
r mobility management in highly mobile distributed environments to fac
ilitate UPCS. The proposed strategy is based on distributed hierarchic
al databases in telecommunication networks to form a hierarchical tree
: the lowest-level nodes of tree are service nodes, and the other node
s are address information nodes. Our strategy registers personal infor
mation in service nodes and keeps track of roaming users' address info
rmation in address information nodes, respectively. A send-on-demand p
rotocol of personal information for reducing transaction and lock time
of user's home database, and real-time updates and queries in service
nodes are investigated. Furthermore, the proposed strategy has been e
valuated not only for mobile communication services, but also for worl
dwide personal communication services in mobility data acquisition, ub
iquitous services availability, registration information recovery, and
network changes' aspects. Finally, a cost analysis model demonstrates
the feasibility of database memory size, updates cost, queries cost,
and communications cost in our proposal.
