The western part of the Maures belt underwent several ductile tectonic
phases followed by an intense fracturation: late Hercynian to Stephan
ian sinistral N-S faulting and Permian sinistral ENE-WSW faulting. The
Permian faults cut the western bell into a series of E-W elongated bl
ocks which have moved relative to one another. This study deals with t
he resulting rotations induced by these faults, in order to make the v
arious blocks orientations coincide and attempt to reconstitute the in
itial state of the Hercynian basement before Permo-Carboniferous erosi
on. The present method consists of taking, in each block, a trirectang
ular reference system corresponding to the main stress axes deduced fr
om conjugate kink-band systems. The latter characterize a N-S compress
ive event which took place after the ductile phases but before the bre
ak-up of the belt.
