The kinetics of the aqueous polymerization of methacrylamide has been
studied under an inert atmosphere employing the potassium peroxodiphos
phate-cysteine hydrochloride redox pair. The order with respect to mon
omer and activator has been found to be unity and initiator showed hal
f order. The polymethacrylamide samples collected under different kine
tic conditions have been used for the determination of intrinsic visco
sity [eta], viscometric average molecular weight <(M)over bar (V)> and
degree of polymerization <(P)over bar (n)>.
