H. Benkenstein et al., YIELD FORMATION, N-UPTAKE AND UTILIZATION OF N-15-LABELED AMMONIUM-SULFATE BY POTATOES AS AFFECTED BY WHEEL TRACK COMPACTION AND FERTILIZERPLACEMENT, Archiv fur Acker- und Pflanzenbau und Bodenkunde, 35(6), 1991, pp. 435-441
A three-year field trial was conducted with potatoes on sandy soil to
study the effect of traffic-induced soil compactions and N fertilizer
placement on crop yield and N utilization. The observed tuber yield lo
ss due to soil compaction in the wheel tracks was significant only in
one year. Band application of 70 kg N.ha-1 as ammonium sulphate offset
these adverse effects in two of the three experimental years and impr
oved N utilization by 13-29%.
