Abstract
In 1988-1990 the nitrate dynamics was investigated in field experiment s on sandy soils. The reference crop spring barley depleted the availa ble nitrate completely from time of shooting in the soil depth until 9 0 cm. Compared with spring barley more nitrate (kg NO3-N.ha-1) was mea sured in the variants: [GRAPHICS] It is to conclude that follow especi ally in water protection areas should be sodded. Fallow with self-sodd ing (set aside) increases after root crops the nitrate leaching risk. With regard to nitrate pollution no threat exists to cultivar peas if catch crops are growing.
