Abstract
Experimental data obtained at the Laboratory of Nuclear Problems of th e JINR (Dubna) using the ARES facility in searches for mu --> 3e and p i --> 3ev decays are analyzed in order to estimate the branching ratio of the decay pi+ --> mu- + 2e+ + nu, which does not conserve the lept onic charge. The bound GAMMA (pi+ --> mu- + 2e+ + nu)/GAMMA (pi+ --> m u- + nu) < 1.6 x 10(-6) is obtained.
