Central collisions of 20.8-GeV/c protons with heavy emulsion nuclei ha
ve been studied. The cross sections for production of leading DELTA + isobars were determined and compared with the Lund (Fritiof version)
model. Data on the correlations between the multiplicities of strongly
ionizing particles and the longitudinal and transverse momenta of the
leading protons are described, as well as data on the "sea-gull" effe
ct for the produced pions. The azimuthal asymmetry is found for the sh
ower particles emitted in the forward hemisphere. It is shown the Lund
model cannot describe all the experimental facts; possible sources of
the observed inconsistencies are discussed.
