Abstract
The results of calculating the cross section for heavy-quark productio n in the leading log aproximation of QCD and in the parton model are c ompared. The equations of the parton model are obtained from the leadi ng log approximation of QCD by a sequence of simplifications. The main difference is that the parton model predicts a more rapid decrease of the cross section with increasing transverse momentum of the heavy qu ark.
