Detailed calculations are made using the Kohn method of positron scatt
ering by the hydrogen molecular ion below the positronium formation th
reshold at 9.45 eV. Phase shifts from the Mo-centre Coulomb value are
obtained for the lowest partial wave of Sigma(g)(+) symmetry using a v
ery flexible trial function containing a large number of short-range c
orrelation functions. The convergence of the results with respect to b
oth the linear and non-linear parameters is explored.
