Abstract
China's rapid economic growth since the initiation of market reforms r aises interesting questions about less successful transition policies in Eastern Europe, about how China managed to evade binding growth con straints related to savings, foreign exchange, and public sector reven ues, and about the environment. These issues provide the focus of a re view of China's medium-term macroeconomy.
