Abstract
Polymethylphenylsilane (PMPS) was modified by chloromethylation then c ondensed with Na salt of Disperse Red 1(DR1). The product, DR1 functio nalized PMPS(PMPS-DR1), was thoroughly washed until it had no DR1 or o ther dopant. Its glass transition temperature is 155 degrees C, contai ns 4.5% weight of DR1 residue. The UV-Vis spectrum of PMPS-DR1 shows a broad absorption band in the range 400-700 nm. Photoconductivity meas ured on a 2 mu m film made of PMPS-DR1, using a 632.8 nm He-Ne laser b eam, shows that it is electric field dependent and in the range of 10( -13) to 10(-11) S/cm. The electro-optical coefficient of PMPS-DR1 was measured as a value of r(33) = 0.8 pm/V.
