P. Courbe et al., CONTINUOUS-CASTING WITH SOLIDIFICATION BE LOW THE MENISCUS - METALLURGICAL RESULTS AND SOLIDIFICATION MODELING, Revue de métallurgie, 93(1), 1996, pp. 75-82
CRM and Irsid are working jointly to develop a new feeding concept of
vertical continuous casting machines. The new concept consists in a sh
ifting of the meniscus position upstream so that the hydrodynamical pe
rturbations of the liquid steel do not affect thesolidification. Cast
billets (155 x 155 mm(2)) present a remarkable surface aspect at a cas
ting speed of 2 m/min (oscillation mark depth of 100 um and reduced si
ze of the primary grain). In parallel, a physical and numerical model
of the solidifying shell in this new concept of vertical continuous ca
sters is developed in collaboration with Ecole des Mines de Nancy.
