Since 1994, the 4-stand tandem mill of Sollac Biache has been equipped
with a width meter at the exit. We present here the result of the fir
st measurements and the process of understanding the phenomena of widt
h variation : trials on pilot mill, trials in the plant, statistical s
tudy of width measurements.
