Ag. Johnston et al., THE PROGRAMMED ASSEMBLY-CONTROLLED DISASSEMBLY OF [2]ROTAXANES AS A STRATEGY IN SYNTHESIS - THE PREPARATION OF A CHEMICAL SENSOR FOR CO2, Bulletin des Societes chimiques belges, 105(10-11), 1996, pp. 721-727
The templated assembly of a macrocycle around a thread to form a [2]ro
taxane, followed by its quantitative disassembly into topologically si
mple components, allows the facile preparation and chromatography-free
isolation of 1 a macrocycle that had proven impossible to obtain by c
onventional means because of its extremely poor solubility in most org
anic solvents.
