Vv. Anikiev et al., THE INFLUENCE OF TERRIGENOUS AND BIOGENIC FACTORS ON THE FORMATION OFELEMENT PARTICLE FLUXES OFFSHORE THE SEA OF JAPAN, Geohimia, (1), 1996, pp. 59-72
An attempt is made to clarify the role of biological and lithodynamic
factors in the fractionation of the chemical composition of suspended
particles relative to sedimentary rocks, based on data on the content
of various groups of elements in plankton, particulate matter, and bot
tom sediments. The structure of the biogeochemical barrier that contro
ls the supply and distribution of matter in the system water-sediment
is elucidated by comparison between direct measurements of particulate
fluxes of elements (obtained by means of sediment traps) and calculat
ions based on different initial data.
