Wm. Molenaar et al., CYTOGENETIC SUPPORT FOR PRIMACY PROSTATIC-CANCER IN A PATIENT PRESENTING WITH A SOFT-TISSUE MASS IN THE LEG, Cancer genetics and cytogenetics, 86(2), 1996, pp. 147-149
A 65-year-old man presented with a soft tissue mass in the leg, clinic
ally suspect of a sarcoma. Histologic examination suggested a metastat
ic adenocarcinoma of the prostate, which could not be confirmed by imm
unohistologic studies. However, cytogenetic analysis strongly supporte
d this diagnosis. A primary prostatic carcinoma was indeed found and t
he patient died of widely disseminated disease. These findings illustr
ate the significance of chromosomal analysis in the search for a prima
ry tumor in patients with an unknown primary.
