Abstract
By considering the hydrodynamic interaction between the suspension and the concentrated sediment in an inclined settler operation continuous ly in the bottom feeding mode, a new upper bound is derived for the ma ximum value of the volumetric feed rate which can be tolerated under a given set of conditions. This criterion is distinct from the familiar Ponder-Nakamura-Kuroda formula which results from applying simple kin ematic arguments.
