Abstract
The polarized crystal spectra of M(2)MnCl(4) . 2X(2)O (M = Cs, Rb; X = H, D) have been measured at 10 K in the near-infrared region. The dat a have been analyzed using a local-mode model that includes the bendin g mode. The resulting parameters are related to hydrogen bonding in th e crystals. The spectra of partially deuterated species show a large n umber of bands due to HOD vibrations. The parameters from these spectr a are compared to those from the H2O and D2O spectra. Arguments as to the importance of Fermi resonance in these spectra are presented.
