Depending on the cell type and the response, cAMP may either oppose or
facilitate the actions of insulin and/or growth factors that signal v
ia receptor tyrosine kinases. Recent findings indicate that the effect
s of the cyclic nucleotide are mediated in part by changes in the acti
vities of important elements in the signal transduction path ways util
ized by insulin and growth factors.
