A SHORT HISTORY OF THE INDEX-TO-AMERICAN-BOTANICAL-LITERATURE

The Index to American Botanical Literature was founded in 1886 as an i ntegral part of the Bulletin of the Torrey Botanical Club. It provided Club members and other renders a survey of botanical literature in th e Western Hemisphere. Evolving in format through the years, it has rem ained a valuable resource, especially to those at institutions without extensive botanical libraries. After 110 years the Torrey Botanical C lub has decided to discontinue the Index. The New York Botanical Garde n will continue the Index and publish it in Brittonia.
