Abstract
We derive the exact analytical asymptotic structure of the Kohn-Sham t heory exchange potential and thereby of the correlation potential at a semi-infinite jellium metal surface. The exchange potential is image- like (-A/x), where A depends on the Fermi energy and surface barrier h eight, and is precisely 1/4 for stable jellium.
