Density and Viscosity have been measured for ten l-bromoalkanes (1-bro
moethane to 1-bromoundecane) at temperatures ranging from 292.35 K to
323.15 K. The molar volumes have been found to follow the additive rul
e, V-m = V-CH3 + xV(CH2) + V-Br, for all 1-bromoalkanes. The thermal e
xpansivities have been calculated from the density data. The variation
of viscosity of bromoalkanes has been shown as a Function of chain le
ngth and temperature. Thermodynamic activation parameters for viscous
how, Delta H-not equal,Delta G(not equal) and Delta S-not equal have b
een calculated. AS' is found to be negative for all the bromoalkanes a
nd the maximum corresponds distinctively at 1-bromopentane.
