Abstract
By studying the stresses of a two-are approximate ellipsoidal head and comparing those of a standard ellipsoidal head of the same dimensions the paper concludes that the bearing capacities of the two kinds of h eads are not the same. The maximum stresses on the inside surface and outside surface of the two-are approximate ellipsoidal head are much g reater than those of the standard one. The maximum latitudinal stresse s of the former are 1.15 times and 1.53 times the latter, inside and o utside; the longitudinal stresses are 1.78 times and 1.49 times those of the latter, respectively. Firstly, the paper gives the best paramet ers of two-are approximate ellipsoidal heads which could make the smal lest volume difference of the two kinds of heads.
