H. Toyama et N. Toyama, MULTINUCLEATION THROUGH HYPERPOLYPLOIDIZATION IN THE BINUCLEATE BASIDIOMYCETE LENTINUS-EDODES WITH COLCHICINE TREATMENT, Microbios, 84(341), 1995, pp. 221-230
When the binucleate mycelial mat of Lentinus edodes was incubated in 0
.01% (w/v) colchicine solution for 10 days at 26 degrees C without sha
king, hyperpolyploid nuclei accounted for 96% of the treated mycelial
mat. A pair of hyperpolyploid nuclei was produced from a pair of norma
l nuclei. Subsequently multiple smaller nuclei were generated graduall
y from one hyperpolyploid nucleus. This phenomenon was called multinuc
leation. The multinucleate body was superior to untreated mycelia in m
ycelial elongation rate.
