Abstract
alpha-Oxoketene dithioacetals 1 are shown to undergo highly selective conjugate reduction with Zn/ZnCl2-TMEDA in refluxing ethanol under con trolled reaction conditions to afford beta-methylthiomethylene ketones 6, beta-methylthioketones 7 and the completely desulphurized alpha-me thylketones 8 in sequential manner.
