Abstract
The values of the metabolic quotient in soils of natural cenoses (fore st, meadow), agrocenoses, and also in forest litter are compared. The metabolic quotient depends on the succession of periods of drying and wetting and reflects the intensity of processes of decomposition of or ganic matter in the soil. The metabolic quotient in soils of natural c enoses at optimal temperature and wetness fell into the range of 0.1-0 .2.
