We show how to carry out a practical application of the method of addi
tion of layers for solving non-linear problems in radiative transfer.
We first give the formulae allowing to initialize the procedure and th
en explain how to build an entire medium by a successive addition proc
ess. We also present the details of the iterative scheme required by t
he non-linear character of the problem. We finally compute an illustra
tive test example on a 5-level hydrogen atom with 10 frequencies and e
xamine the convergence properties of the solution.
