Abstract
The title reaction proceeds in dichloromethane at room temperature wit hin 1/2 hour. Benzylic alcohols are intermediates. TiCl4 can be replac ed by other ( although less effective) Lewis acids such as AlCl3, BF3- ether, FeCl3.
