The pore structure and properties of uniform spherical cobalt phosphat
e particles have been investigated by various means. The chemical and
thermogravimetrical analyses gave the formula of the particles as Co3(
PO4)1.95(OH)0.15.4.4H2O. The X-ray diffractometer measurement revealed
that the particles possess a thermally unstable layer structure. The
particles pretreated below 45-degrees-C adsorbed H2O much more than N2
, CH3OH, C6H6, CO2, and CCl4, but this selective adsorption of H2O dis
appeared on outgassing above 50-degrees-C. This result could be interp
reted by a molecular sieve effect of slit-shaped micropores in the par
ticles.
